I know you like the idea of gasless at the minute, but you won’t for long. Don’t limit yourself to a machine than won’t be capable of working with gas in the future.
No worries, might have to have a re think on your user name nowSoz!
Thanks fellas,
@Mark 2 - Sorry this seemed a pointless thread. That's my ignorance i'm afraid. Believe it or not this little thread has taught me a lot. First things first. This machine is going back. I am going to do what i normally do and buy a decent one which will cover me as i improve. It's the first time i've bought cheap in the first instance. Not my normal MO.
So, A far better question for you experienced guys...... Is it possible to buy a Decent MIG welder for less than £250? And, I went Gasless because someone advised that it's cheaper in the long run, i wouldn't therefore need to buy gas. Again from the little i have learned, that seems a false economy. What would you recommend?
All i would like from a machine is to do a little DIY fabrication anything from Bodywork repairs to maybe jointing say 6mm steel max. I’ll never be producing a weld that ‘matters’ other than the visuals of it.
Thanks again.
No they don't! A coded welder would not give a s**t about one of my welds. What would matter is if you let me loose on a weld that matters.the last sentence, then why not drill and rivet it or drill and bolt thicker stuff together
All welds matter
Good plan - except it won't let me....No worries, might have to have a re think on your user name now
As a mig beginner (but not newcomer), @Spark plug makes an excellent point. I've only recently tried gas MIG and yes, everything is better.I know you like the idea of gasless at the minute, but you won’t for long. Thanks Mate. I like the cut of your jib! That static arc looks perfect! And you have clearly proven in the right hands it's adequate. I've just read your review on it on here. Top post fella Thanks! If you do indeed want to start using gasless, which for welding up metal fabrication projects using 3mm thick material (box section, angle iron etc) is perfectly decent (don't let anyone tell you otherwise), I would recommend you pick up one of these:

Or one of these if you want something smaller:

I have welded up tables from 3 and 4mm box section using the static arc, I've built steel doors using gasless wire (3 rolls of the stuff), I've welded up cars with it. It is a great machine for the money.
I buy my gasless wire from Lidl when it is on special offer - it is excellent stuff.
I'm really really really good at welding (and super modest too) so you're mileage with the machine may vary That being said, it is very easy to get going with. Thanks Mate. I like the cut of your jib! yes - well, not got it yet, but amazon have accepted the return and union mart have paid for postage. You got a refund then?
The one recommended by HughF by static arc. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIG-140A...930650?hash=item3fc465929a:g:ibgAAOSw0K5d7snOSo what is the replacement then as a matter of interest?
