An axe makes splitting hard work, it is easier with a splitting maul http://www.deltec.net/60-deltec-wood-splitting-mauls (there are many similar things available) or with one of these http://www.plowhearth.com/smart-log-splitter.htm (there are similar in the UK) or if you want to risk losing your bits![]()
I have a splitting maul, tobe honest I find the big old 8 lb axe better than the funky fibreglass shafted maul.
I like the wheel thing, but heath and safety aside. I have considered making one of these to remove impact through my arm, i broke my elbow years ago in an accident so its not quite right as they say. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQh7HaV6h8g
But with that you still have to hand ball the logs up, then into the log store. I now have a vastly better solution, and its free.
I own some land, with it came a river bank, with fishing. Our local tree surgeon log man likes to fish, but doesnt own some land with a river bank and fishing. He fished yesterday, i got a salmon and approx 1.5m3 of logs, (a long bed L200 full) he even stacked them as we were out.
Easiest log chopping I have ever done.
