What size thread for gas line?

I want to put quick couplings on the gas line at the welder end so I can disconnect the bottle for storage (as I often do) without using a spanner.
What size and type of fitting would be suitable?

It depends on the supplier, but the tend to be 3/8 BSP. but i have one that is 1/4 BSP

Quite a lot are 1/4" BSP. i have rectus 21 quick connectors on all my gear, great couplings, Get mine from ebay from a firm called Contax

I'm using 1/8" bsp fittings and recoil hoses for airbrushes

My current setup has a 47l bottle in the corner of the workshop with a 3/8" fitting to a airline hose, that then connects to the welder carr and then to the welder. I've an umbilicle with air, power and gas to the cart. the rest of the fittings are 1/4" and thet are all plc connectors

I've got a 20l Y bottle, it's definitely not 1/4" as I've tried my spare fittings on it and they're too small so must be 3/8".

Don't forget pipe fittings are sized on the internal diameter of the hole. Not the thread on like Ll the other threads

The fitting on the bottle will most likely be 3/8" that is the common size. At the welder end they are usually 1/4"

Definitely not a 1/4" at the welder on the mig 180 the quick release couplings I tried were too small.

I tried just that before I built my trolley, but it leaked a little gas at the quick coupling [PCL] and I reverted to the screw on connector. Less concerned about the gas being leaked than the chance that delivery level set on the pea-shooter gauge wasn't all reaching the torch .

They're 3/8 on the R-Tech and I went for the Rectus 21 couplings, quite pricey compared to standard PCL but a very nice little fitting.

just read this, thanks for the idea.

i tryed PCL coupleings once befoe but they were rubbish mainly due to being cheep PCL's. the rectus 21 fitting look exactly like what the watercooler has, so orderd a few of them to try. if they are same as watercooler they are excelent fittings had threatend to try them just never got round to finding out what they were called
