I usually twiddle the braid, sleeve it and wago it to the other earths. All through a stuffing gland, because I have lots and they’re neat and waterproof. Is that bad?

yep use the proper glands for termination

I've done similar when the installation can't fit the proper glands, I usually tease a gap in the braid and pull the inner core out through it then turn the braid into a pigtail for earthing/bonding.
