Looking to pick up a hydraulic press for tinkering with my bikes. Would need to be able to press bearings in to engine cases, bushes into swing arms etc.
Any recommendations please?
I rebuilt an Aprilia 2 stroke where the method to fit the crank bearings was heat the cases up to 80 deg C. Only way I could get the cases apart was in the press.
Thanks people.. yes I know about freezing bearings and heating cases ( I have an oven in the garage for this) but there may be times when I need to press bushes in.
Glad 10 ton seems to be about right. Nice and cheap and small
15 ton floor standing one here, which gives a decent amount of waggle-room around it.
Seldom requires more than six tons of force on anything, but, then again, I do have blowtorches and a tin of Rocol anti-scuff paste.....
I have a ten ton press. Perfect for what you want. If you did want to do anything more than what’s been mentioned I find it not powerful enough. I have been looking for a bigger one.
I have a Laycock 60 ton press, best £80.00 delivered I had spent in a long time, bought it around 30 years ago, would not be without it, cannot recall ever going over 5-7 tons, maybe 15 on the very odd occasion but the size is useful when trying to get a motorcycle frame straighter, or girder forks! or rear half shaft bearings on a Mk 2 jaguar,
