What printers use the cheapest cartridges ?

yes i had a cartridge cloning tool, you plug it into a cartridge press a button and it wipes the cartridge memory and away you go,refill with ink, job done

if you want lots of black and white copies buy a 2nd hand hp laserjet 5n or equivalent, £30 a fill and does thousands of copies

We are still using some HP Laserjet 4100 at work - they are about 12 years old and still going strong.

Same as Marc.w, the ciss saves you a fortune but look into bypassing the head cleaning sponges to a bottle instead or things could get messy. Look on you tube for help videos.

I got the thing to print , it would either print on the best quality setting or the worst but nothing on the medium setting, i tried everything and decided to top up the black cartridge again and it works fine now. The problem is i only use it occassionally and it drys out.

you are not the only one to fall for this trap. In order to get a decent printer you have to spend around £150. If was you, I would get a HP inkjet or laserjet and use compatibles and let those kids print on and enjoy.

I have an Epson DX4050 , replacement original T0710/711/712/713 cartridges cost over £30 and as someone earlier mentioned it does around 8 pages in colour on A4 then are nearly empty , I would not recommend this printer to anyone . Tried cheap ebay cartridges (16 for £8 ) and they work well but due to the printer standing unused the colours seem to work but black is completely clogged . I read that nail varnish remover sometimes works to flush out the print head , anyone tried it and is there any other cheap chemical I could try ? Maybe poking the print head with a pin or using a compressed air line on it would work ? I know this is not recommended but theres nothing to lose as its going in the bin otherwise .

Nail varnish remover is aceteone, can be bought from most chemical suppliers in 5 litre cans.

Meths may be a better bet, it dissolves ink and I suspect it would less likely to attack plastic.

I paid a fiver at the car boot for an A3 colour laser printer when I had the shop.
Cost me about 60 or 70 quid for a complete set of feed rollers (maintenance items), and IIRC about 80 quid for a set of four toner cartridges.
Ran it for 4+ years, printing out at least 10-15,000! colour sheets - not quite photo quality, but good enough for advertising posters and leaflets.

It's still showing 25%-40% remaining toner (black runs out first), and lives in my living room as a coffee table (it's 18" high x 30" x 34" - ie, huge!)

Inkjets are, IMO, a complete waste of money for most domestic printing jobs - certainly in my house, where I mainly print project plans, letters and directions off google maps (no satnav )

My regular printer is a HP4100 laserjet - they can be picked up for about 5-10 quid at auctions, office clearances, carboot etc - usually needing new feed rollers (£30ish) - or bought refurbished for about £100. A toner refill costs about £60, and will do about 50-80,000 sheets (ebay invoices).

When my kids were at school, they printed their homework out in b&w and then hand coloured the diagrams.
If they wanted colour photos, they went to Asda, and printed them out @13p a go (might have gone up now).
