I will be getting someone to lathe some parts for a big hydraulic ram I plan to fabricate while the lockdown. I was thinking of going to an engineers steel supplies but what steel is used to make the hydraulic cylinder bore? Do I need to get it honed or does it come ready done?

You need to buy in the pre jones and plated stuff. No normal shop will have the ability to hone bores out as deep Or as accurately as required as a hydraulic cylinder.
