what other material can i use on my rear bumper?

I need to re new the step tread on my 4x4 bumper I have stripped it off and welded in some sections for a winch but just found out the step tread is rusty, very rusty, so before i finish the job i would like to cut the old step tread off and weld a new one on before finishing off with the jotun.

I can only find 3 and 4mm steel checker I think bending that may be a ball ache.

This old steel checker has rusted through where the welds ain't I guess mud has been trapped under between the box and checker plate

I'd use aluminium if it was me, bending 3-4mm ali checker plate would be very easy compared to steel

its just attaching the ali to the steel, it cant wled it.

You could rivet it on or use rivnuts and screw it on. Stuck on with Tiger seal would probably even be secure enough.

Probably the best bet, if you directly bolt it you will get the lovely white powder so loved by land rover owners!

Tiger seal and clamped to dry would be a strong joint, it would also form a seal around the edge to stop moisture getting in between them and causing corrosion.

depending on curve cut using a 1mm slitting disc about halfway through , as many cuts as needed, curve ,then weld cuts , just dont throw too much heat into it and dsitort it ,weld/cool etc , works good if you want the strength of steel .. (distort!)

I dont really need the strength, the checker sits ontop of the box and tube bumper the check now is only 1mm i cant find 1mm steel check

Ali checker with tiger seal gets my vote too ..... no rust,looks better and tiger seal sticks like st to a blanket too .... win win

How about plain steel with some sort of ribbed rubber sheet glued on ?

I think I like the idea of checker might go down the ali, although i can get a steel sheet 4mm cheapish
