What motor cable

Will 5core x 1mm wire be ok from a Dewhurst Switch to 1/2hp lathe motor, only around 1meter length.

Full load current for a 1/2 hp motor is around 5 amps and 1 mm cable is good for 10 amps in the worst case (buried in insulating material) so for a short length like that you should be fine, even if you need to apply some derating factor due to it being 5 core (I’d assume not all will be carrying current at any one time anyway).
