What make timing(cam)belt kits are recomended?

Dayco aux belts are noisey - the amount I fitted and had to swap out for warranty - means I don't fit them now. Hate doing things twice.


INA camblet kits are where it is at - we avoid Gates/Dayco - we try and fit INA all the while.


Same for clutch kits - we go for LUK

INA/LUK/FAG in the Schaeffler group - German made - OE stuff....

The belt and water pump on the Legacy will need doing soon. I've seen a few recommendations to only use original parts on Subarus, "they're quite fussy" is something I hear a lot.

Trouble is, the nearest dealer is a 2 hr round trip from here. Anybody had any luck buying manufacturer parts online?

The big suppliers like DayCo, Gates, INA and Continental will have 2 or 3 manufacturing sites for same components, because of the supply agreements and penalty clauses for line downtime, all the OEM's get the premium parts.
What gets punted out to the after-market motor factors is another matter.
Personally have used, OEM, Gates, DayCo, and INA. find the quality of the tensioners and idlers better in the dayco and INA kits.

Ford have had dealerships using fake parts like oil filters (see one in the flesh, well metal and paper) there is no 100% guarantee that anything you buy will be genuine thanks to the Chinese.
The Chongqing Ford engine plant was building 1.5 Sigma units with clone oil pumps, and was only discovered when we sent failed samples to Pierburg, and they came back with "they are not ours"

Head gaskets = Elring or Fel-pro, but neither make them for all cars.

TPS (VAG group) have had - copy clone stuff thru there doors. It is a fact... (few trade customers been paid out)

no use for eggs in the rebuild (hopefully) as will order new radiator as originals have tendency to sag alarmingly in the middle , although not leaking re fitting is not an option .

checked out several of the suggested "good suppliers" and eurocarparts do a ina kit for £446 Wow . dearer than genuine I suspect , new genuine mitsi belts including tax approx £120 ,not the full kit but favouring that at the moment plus new tensioner. I have had several of these so have a good selection of as new rollers in the draw.
full gasket kit and v reinz head gasket winging their way as we converse, head checked with a 3 thou skim and block face checked, so getting there slowly ,saying that never any rush these days .
