What kind of vice is this?

It is pretty huge. I had no idea it was this big when I bought it
Machine vice or bench vice?
I think more for a bench. Bound to be useful
I hope! Weighs 38kg not so bad but look at the opening. 12" ruler for scale.

Yes just seen some others for sale.
I really had a bargain.
Not a very high quality example but not bad.
Why aren't they more popular I wonder. Very fast to adjust. A more sensible size and it would be great for a milling machine. This is too big for my Elliott unless I use it sideways!

In the slate quarries in North Wales they had a few on the big machines in the preserved workshops.

The slots allow the moving jaw to be quickly adjusted to suit.

It is a development of a Cam lacking vice.

Rack vice - I got a huge old one of these - it is about 2ft in length - never used it on a drilling machine - as I have not got a pillar drill with a big enuf table to put it on.


I have used mine for years for clamps things in for welding. It has given me good service and saved many a bench vice from being covered in splatter

We have an ancient rack vice on a small pillar drill at work. It's a very handy size and design - I'd hang onto that one if I were you great for wide workpieces.

There is a similar type vice on my power hacksaw.
Very quick to adjust for big stuff.
Both jaws on it are moveable.
