What is this cladding?

I’ve seen this around quite a bit recently, some sort of wood composite? It seems to be panels rather than strips and it’s very convincing if it isn’t wood - it seemed fibrous and splintery to the touch but where a screw had gone in it was behaving like plastic.

This is a nice appearance.
However if it's plastic planked material I'd avoid it like the plague. A neighbour recently lost 2 barns in a fire that contained synthetic decking material. It took several crews of fireman 4 days to put it all out.

I don't think its that stuff, this seems a lot more refined, if I'm thinking of the same thing?

It was on a commercial building (pub), and I would have thought with events of recent years there would be regulations around this sort of thing. Maybe the decking material in your neighbours barn was the stuff @arther dailey was referring to, which I think it made from recycled tyres?

I have one of those garden benches made from plastic. Manufacturer claims they are made from recycled bottles.

Outdoors though? I’m planning an extension and quite like the look of this stuff. Only thinking of building regs if whether it’s approved for external cladding.

As an aside. Got some cladding from this supplier today. Arrived on time and seems decent gear.
