What is the make of my powered Saw

I am sure a saw a post about a powered hacksaw on the forum this morning but now I cannot find it. I have a powered hacksaw that looks just like it that was found in the scrap. It doesn’t have a name plate so I have never been able to find any information on them.

In the post they were talking about the automatic blade mechanism not working. Well my saw had the exact opposite problem in that the blade would not stop rising so I disconnected the pump rod on the big pulley. The blade descend control works but it just kept lift of the work!

So what’s it called and how should it work

Just look at 10:30 in that shows the saw.

It's a Qualters and Smith Sawmaster.

They have a hydraulic auto lift that engages when then arm drops low enough at the end of the cut.
Very well made machines.

I disconnected the lift mechanism probably 10 years ago so I don’t remember the details. But it would try to lift all the time. I have to admit I thought the idea was just to take the weight of the blade on the return stroke. But from the comments look like it was a powered rise ?

Yes it is a powered rise. At the end of the cut the arm lifts up then turns off. Really clever idea.
Should be easier to fault find knowing what it should do.

I remember having it in bit loads of times. I was swimming in hydraulic oil by the time I gave up and disconnected it. Does anyone know the proper function of a the knobs.

Are ok knowing the name really helped. The one I have is missing the little plunger rod that gets pushed down. Found this example online

I have a Q&S power hacksaw & I started a thread about mine not working.
The saw rises & falls by the action of a spring loaded bevelled washer on the bottom of the piston which pushes the saw back up. The bevelled washer opens (blade falls) & closes over a hole in the piston (blade rises). The bevelled washer is pushed open by the blade lowering lever & moderated by the feed control lever. When the cutting is complete the lowering lever impinges on the blade trip stop, this forces up the blade lowering lever, closing the hole in the piston by allowing the bevelled washer to rise.
The photo above shows the controls.

I think the my saw is missing the lift stop as you have labelled it in your photo. Is the lift stop simply a length of threaded bar that has to be adjusted to length. It’s funny your saw won’t lift and my saw won’t stop lifting, we should get them a room together!

I may make a video on this sometime.

The lift stop is as you say just a bit of threaded bar, the original has knurling to make it easier to adjust but any bit of threade rod would do the job, I think the thread is whitworth so should be easy to make up a replacement.
After a lot of fiddling about my saw now works as it should. The feed control lever on mine was missing & I made a replacement,

Just had a look at the lifter and the rod is missing and a short cap head screw is installed. I actually thought this was some kind of vent or small filling hole for oil. It’s making a bit more sense now. I will have a look at the weekend.
