Well wanted a lathe a few months ago but I have had a bad couple of months of funeral to sort and a mate paul made some spacers for me to cheer me up any how my eldest son said he wanted a hobby apart from an Xbox ( well my idea) so I found a very cheap and cheerful myford lathe with bits missing but it seams to have been modified a bit so I a few parts but I have no idea what myford it is any ideas

That's what I thought with the wood holdy thingy instead of a chuck but it has a 3 jaw chuck and most of a cross slide an bloody heavy

the tool rest is missing off it u should be able to pick one up easy or make one for it . the faceplates missing as well

I reckon its a heavily butchered 4 inch precision lathe. Look here, (about half way down the page) http://www.lathes.co.uk/myford%20mf74/index.html there is a capstan lathe that looks very similar.

Been used as a wood lathe, but is a metal one. The tailstock is too heavy and complicated for wood as is the tool carrier. A wood lathe would(sorry) have just a rest, not a crossslide. Take out that bit from the headstock and the chuck should fit. It probably had pulleys on the open part of the shaft for speed change.

Ah, didn't see Mr Splatter's post. A large chunck has ben cut out of the headstock where it used to say Myford.
Short a lot of bits on the tool carrier to move it around.

Here's the one I bought for the father in law last year.....

Very capable as a wood lathe, not sure if I'd like to turn metal on it though.

Although, looking on the lathes.com page above it looked like a capable little machine, the one I got even has the original stand
