Sliq Invoicing iirc. Haven't used it for a few months due to a change in jobs..
The problem with spreadsheets & Word is that they don't give a record of your invoices, so you have to keep another spreadsheet to calculate you accounts (I suppose you could use macros if you could be bothered). An accounting package will keep records and do you calcs for you.

you only have to enter maintenance to correct errors if you have already posted the invoice to the ledgers and even then its that simple a child could do it, as for sole traders you choose what type of accounts you require when setting it up and even if you don't use all of the features its ideal for invoicing and has a good backup facility.Sage is really geared towards limited companies where transparency is more important than for individuals and non-limited companies, so if you make a mistake you have to reverse the erroneous entry and enter the correct figures using the journal so the correction shows up on the audit trail.
Sage also produces a balance sheet which is a requirement for limited companies but not for individuals &c.

I first used sage instant accounting 98 and without looking can't remember what version I'm on now although in this version I can't find the ability to edit invoice templates so I did it in the old version and simply saved as a fileIt's many years since I used it, but I guess maintenance will generate the journal entries for you, anything you do has to be in the audit trail.
I stopped using Sage when an 'upgrade' to v11 stopped loads of my bespoke reports working and ran at about half the speed of the previous version. I did try to fire it up about a year or two ago but it wouldn't run, I got a message saying I had used it the permitted number of times and I should give Sage a ring. Sensing a drain on my wallet I didn't bother.

Simpler to use the better
Prefer one that i can get a app with so i can use on my phone but essential that I can use it on the laptop
Nothing fancy just the basic name,description,total,vat
Just getting to be a pain bow having to write my vat number in all the time plus i want something that looks a bit more professional
