what hd tv and sound system

Hi All, wife and I have decided to join the 21st century wrt hd tv and blue ray ,sound system etc,so I have about a grand to spend all in ,the big question is what to get? not too bothered about 3d,i don't pretend to understand the difference between plasma and LED,it will be connected to a satellite humax box,are there systems already matched?

I would also reccomend Richer sounds.
I dont do TV but they are great for music systems.
They know there stuff and are happy to talk about it.

Richer are ok if you pay full whack brand new unopened box.
Ex demo/display TV rarely come with anything at all, no stand no wall bracket on back almost impossible to get, no remotes (2) no IR blaster or 3D glasses and manual that's £230 alone shopping around.

You need to venture out pay no attention to the sales patter and judge for yourself. Take note of the exact model numbers offered which are often obsolete, do your homework and shop around. Took me over two weeks to decide.
We have a massive Currys 17 mile away.

Bought a Panny led this time to replace a Samsung led, swings and roundabouts. Judge for yourself there seems a load of disgruntled Sammy owners the last two years.

Normal viewing you wont see that much difference between this

BluRay and HD you will, same with Samsung models.

Finlux a budget brand have had good reviews but not far off last years Panny budget models.
BluRay are cheap nowadays sub £100

Have you the room layout for 5.1, nearly all modern houses are not and the main reason I don't use mine.
Yamaha supposed to be good.

If you MUST buy from Currys, check the EXACT model numbers, especially for Samsung. You may be surprised to find that the model suffix changes from the mainstream model. Word from the trade says that this denotes an OEM badge job specifically for them. No real problem until you want a mainstream repair organisation to do something with it.

Best advice is to never ever patronise the Dixon's group in my opinion.

Hi ,Thanks for replies, seems that as I have a dish I must get either just a tv and use my existing humax box, this seems difficult to find or get one with a satellite tuner built in,I have a couple of off white teeth left but no blue ones so that is an option I don't need! off to currys to have a butchers, am I right in thinking that the higher the Hz the better the picture?

Personally I would have a look at the shop TVs and decided about the picture for yourself, personally I have never seen what would be a massive difference in picture quality between a lot of the TVs, especially once you get them home and are not comparing them along side others.

Plasmas are a bit cheaper to buy - especially the larger sizes, but tend to suffer from reflections as the screens are glossy.

Samsung do a range of TVs with Sat receivers in them (most of the larger models can be got with this option, but you have to find someone stocking them)

John Lewis are worth a look for TVs - they have reasonable prices and include a 5 year guarentee as standard

Personally I went for a 65" Samsung Plasma and a Samsung Blu-Ray home cinema system - the cinema system automatically turns on the with TV (and off) and the integrated volume control works (with ARC this should be the case with any modern TV and SS system but mixed makes can sometimes be tempremantal). Its a nice system and includes all of the online catchup TV systems but - when the sun is bright and at the wrong angle I do need to close the curtains which I would not have to do so often with and LED TV. Total cost was under £1,150 TV from JL and Blu-ray from Currys as they had the best price at the time

Looks like you're confusing BlueTooth with Blu-Ray.

Costco always worth a look if you have one near. 90 day no quibble return/refund policy even if it's only because you don't like the color! If you decide to keep it it's then got a 5 yr warranty.

They won't have the same choice and selection as a huge currys etc but even withstanding the extra warranty I have found them to be cheaper for comparable models elsewhere.

Also look out for prices with 94 in as it means they have been reduced which could be either be end of line of ex display.

i *think led are cheaper to run than a plasma?
