Feels like as I get older more stuff goes missing....I swear that someone is moving it around just for fun.

Recently it feels like putting things in a "safe place" is basically just hiding it from myself!

I've roll of RS brand Torx screwdrivers somewhere. Range is from small to large. I've one or two knocking around that must have been out of the roll when I lost it. I'd really like to find it. Been thinking that for the last 20 years.

Of late it's my 18V Fakita multitool I've misplaced.

I'm always doing that...I have a 10t bench press in my loft that's never been used! I don't know how I got it up there...and I can't remember why I bought it

Even more annoying is when I'm making a batch of identical parts, last one was some 1" ish round spacers with a flat on one side. So first few operations are on the lathe, then move them all over to the mill... Hang on, I made four, why are there only three? Cue half an hour of fruitless searching before I give up and go back and make the missing one again.

This. Was turning some parts yesterday but lathe wasnt happy with parting so I did them with grinder, took a while and used up several rubbish discs. Back to lathe and theres one missing. I have searched around lathe and grinder bench about 10 times , it is gone!
Sods law is that I will pull everything out later from under the bench, waste hours, and then it will turn up in a stupid place in front of me. However I dont have any more bar spare, so it has to be found today!

While looking for it I noticed @Onoff 's milling project bits, trying to escape down the back of the tool cabinet. I just about managed to get my arm down there to save it but it was a painful experience.

My dad put the original rubber handle for his outboard motor's recoil start somewhere safe a long time ago, hasn't seen it since. A few years later, he took the flywheel off the motor and cable-tied the flywheel nut to the cowl so that it wouldn't go missing. He still hasn't found the nut...

My usual method for finding something I 'put away safely' is to buy a new one, (almost) never fails...

I found the socket but the nut has vanished!
It had a soft landing so I assumed it was in all the muck on top of the bash plate.

Tools or parts dropped into an engine bay just vanish into another dimension IME. Only having a gravel driveway to work on doesn't help either.

well I found my 17mm deep impct socket I lost a year ago ,bought another in the mean time . dont know what nuptie put it in the glove box ,who the heck goes in there
I say found , truth is was clearing the truck as I sold it..

Put the engine I've rebuilt back into the Kubota rtv900 yesterday and one of the engine mounting bolts was missing. Now I could have put a new bolt in ( although it was metric fine so I probably didn't have one) but I hate losing a part, so I spent over two hours looking for it, i nearly pulled the engine back out in case it had dropped into the bell housing . Eventually found it under my Tig welder about 20 ft away from the vehicle, how it got there I've no idea.

similar , g cramp on the rear under run bar of an iveco daily , on there several years , how the mot guys did nt pull me up on it I will never know , well rusted so sold it with it still on
