What has gone wrong here ?

Thats my usage too, probably less than that in fact. My 1/2 inch one is a Norbar, and its got to be forty years old.

Where do you get them done, and how much does it cost ? A while ago I dallied with the idea of replacing them, but didn't, as quality tools seem hard to get now.

They charged me £30 to do my torque wrench and PCL tyre inflator. Invoiced and certs provided.

I bought one of these after a bad torque wrench incident and checked it with a brand new Halfords ( Norbar) 1/2" wrench and it was spot on.


The old wrench was clicking off 30Nm under spec which is why my son's wheel nearly fell off!

This is a constant concern of mine, does anyone trust a torque wrench fully ? This one is a 3/8 drive Britool jobbie that I bought new a long time ago, and never been used in a professional capacity, so not worn out ......... I hope.

I've had my Norbar torque wrenches since the late 70's, only had hobby use and the tension is always unwound after use, the place I was working at a few years ago had proper calibrated testers and I was pleased to find mine were near enough spot on across the range

You can do poor mans checking, 30 n/m is 30 newtons on a meter long handle, for example. I am unsure how torque wrenches are adjusted if they are out but they can be checked..

There's a small screw that normally has an anti tamper sticker over it you adjust them with.
I stripped and cleaned my dodgy one and "recalibrated" it using the digital gauge and it was pretty close to the settings.
It was full of very solid old grease so I cleaned it out and regreased it.
