We've got stacks of it at school from old science bench tops.
I was thinking that, when we moved into our bungalow, the previous occupant left behind what was a school refectory table. I cut it down as a temporary kitchen table & had to chisel the chewing gum from the underside. The were several other unidentifiable stains on it as well, needless to say we got rid as soon as possibleOPs wood can’t be from schools, no gum on the underside !
Scrap wood quality then?looks like the sort of timber that should be carefully dry stored .
until November 5th, when it will then prove usefull.
Can't say I noticed a peppery smell. Nice looking table.Another vote for Iroko.
Does the sawdust smell peppery when you cut it?
Just be careful if it is: I acquired some laboratory worktops a few years ago that I think are Iroko (I thought they were teak, but they weren't). After working with them for a while, I'm now allergic to the dust - the slightest hint of it and my nose swells up and starts streaming like a tap.
