What Grade Steel for Ball Joint Pins

So I have had some steel pins machined for some race spec ball joints from a current supplier for several years and I have lost the details of what grade material they were machined from.

They are no longer around so I have to find a new supplier/machinist and I need to work out what steel to have them machined from.

Can anyone make a suggestions of something suitably hard but machinable and will be threadable. The current pins are not heat treated just straight machined for me.

I know its a different part but you could start your search here, 2 or 3 grades of materials mentioned, If I remember corectly.
