What Generator for my mig?

Hi i own a siegen 130 amp mig welder, min output 30amps max 130amps, 230V on a 13amp 3 pin plug. 2.8KW

I am wanting to run the welder off a portable generator as so I can do some work on my car at my garage (which has no power suppply)

According to the manufacture the generator needs to be at 240V? with suitable wave form and frequency?


I have seen these 2 on ebay what you think?

Those generators will boil a kettle or run an electric drill but not much good for a welder drawing 2.4kw as one of them is 1kw and the other 850w. To run a welding set you generally need a generator with an output quite a bit higher than max current drawn by the welder.

neither of those 2 gennys are anywhere near powerfull enough to run a welder
i have a 5ka diesel and it wont run my mig up full
i know you wont be welding on full power but the start up power the welder requires is quite high

they wont even boil most kettles most are at leat 1500w

the fast boil kettles are 2.5-3kw. you will need a 5KVA + generator

i put a kettle on my 2,5 genny it pulled the bum out of it and nearly stalled the engine

have been known to run a kettle and sandwich toaster off a 2.5KVA when on site. easy to tell when the kettle has boiled the engine goes back to normal speed
