What gas??

Hi ppl!! just brought a Clarke 160 te turbo & need to know what gas i need!? I can only use Air Products as they are the only suppiers to shetland where i live! I'm only going to be using it for a very short while to weld new front panels on my mini but there seems to be lots of different types, sizes & costs!! Also could i be better off buying a small regulator & using the chuck away bottles??

I wouldn't bother with dispoables.

A small cylinder of coogar 5 is the way to go imo.

I can't find coogar 5 on the air products web site Hitch???? And no i've never welded before lol!! I've come on here for some tips & advice but John Magnus the man thats going to be welding my Mini is going to give me a crash course!! Been thinking about doing an evening class to!!

If you've never welded before, you definatly won't want disposables.

roger most that have done the even courses in welding have given them the thumbs up, but as far as i understand from reading posts on the forum. they tend to deal with welding thicker material than car body 5mm + thickness. Which means you have a small learning curve after you have done the course, on learning not to burn holes in car body thickness material.
As far as the gas goes, you welding car body thickness, so something with around a 5% CO2 content is ideal. The more CO2 in the gas the thicker the material it should be used on. The remaining content is made up from argon, with perhaps a 1-2% content of O2.
One of the things about car repairs is Mig welding doesnt like dirty or rusty metal (Tig is worse if it isnt spotless and shinney TIG doesnt like it), so you have to clean it up nice and cut out the rot. A good few, that are new to welding have trouble to start with, mainly because they havent prep the welding area.(there is a thread i can remember sure it was welding up a ford transit, just couldnt find it)

i thought the whole concept of shielding gas was to protect the weld from oxygen, but its being used in that coogar gas.
