What fish is this?

Walking my dogs this morning along a path that goes under a railroad. It's low-lying swampy ground but has a clearance where the road. I've never seen a single living thing in this water apart from the odd bird on the surface but this morning I stopped to let the dogs cool down in the shade of the bridge when I spotted this big bugger slowly gliding past just below the surface.

Surprised to see any sort of aquatic life in there let alone this size of fish must be a good 18" long. Anyone tell the make & model? I'm not up on my coarse fish identification.

Id say pike as well, magnificent fish, unchanged for millions of years

This means that there are plenty of other smaller fish in there as well.

It isn't an eel, definitely a fisht and not pointy enough to be a pike I would say, had too much of a belly.

I know the pic is frustratingly poor it's a shame I couldn't get my phone out and unlocked quicker (had it in a buttoned-down pocket) because it came past left to right much closer then went under the floating weeds. I could just make out it's path as it circled around and away and got a couple of quick snaps as it went into the shade.

I can't tell for sure with those pics but it's highly likely to be a carp if it was just cruising about. I've just spent the weekend watching dozens of them ignoring every tactic I tried to catch them.

Looking at the 3rd picture I reckon your mystery fish is a humpback that wants to know how heavy it is so it's heading for the whale weigh station .

I'd have said it looks more like a pike.

At first I thought pike before I could see it. Looking at it on my phone I now think carp.

The shape of the head makes me think it’s a Pike. If it had a scarf on i would be 100% confident in my answer

If it was swimming very fast it would probably be a motor pike and side carp

I would say a Pike, only as Alligator Gar are not common in out waters..
Pike can live in real bad waters. dont need a lot to eat really. There must be either feeder fish in there aswell or somebody has dumped it oi there from a near buy lodge
