What face mask are you using for outdoor blasting?

I've done a days worth of outdoor blasting using glass media + pressure pot. I used a full face visor and Screwfix breathing mask. I got through three visor shields though. Also the visor lets media into my eyes.

What are people using for outdoor blasting?

My bloodshot eyes would like a better solution!

To be honest, with the amount of work it's taken to strip the car, the £1200 quote I had from the soda blasting place seems like a bargain now.

Still got another two days work before I can paint.

I'm also taping overhead projector acetate film like below over the faceshield. It lasts between 1 and 2 hours, you can get 2 from an a4 sized piece

you still get plenty of dust behind the faceshield, but Ive dont about 12 hours with that setup and havnt got any in my eyes. the bionic facemask shield cover more of the face than generic faceshields as it wraps arround more.

Sorry I made it sound like I did all that in one day... I didn't.. it took many days. I removed most of the old paint and rust using MBX tool, and the sand blaster just in the places the tool wouldn't reach. It turns out to be a good combo because you can use the MBX tool inside, in my nice warm garage, with music playing and no dust. Then trolleyed the car out and blasted the corners.

Tomorrow I need to mark the areas I missed and remove some left over seam sealer that the blaster isn't removing. Then some more blasting.

4mm jet, superfine media, and two 14 CFM compressors.

I tried medium-fine media but it doesn't flow well and when I'm under the car I don't want to be getting out to readjust the media throttle valve.

Probably it was getting in my eyes because I was under the car, and using cheap mask which doesn't wrap around.

didn't know about the bionic mask in optima's photo.........
I've been using the normal full face with the rest of my head covered with a heavy thick towel (like a small bath towel)...tucked in my T shirt and under the mask and around the neck like a scarf.....keeps the worst of the sand out also using gogles to keep the crap outta my eyes..........just gets a bit hot tho.......it was over 30 degrees when I did my chassis but was under a cover ........
the blaster is held at arms length so blow back is not so bad......the clear plastic does get a bit damaged so will try the acetate trick......

I bought one similar (Scorpion) and it cost me £200, these seem good value for money.

Instead of using compressed air I fitted the helmet with a NEW (ie clean) vacuum cleaner hose and used a car heater fan to blow air into it. Much cheaper than using compressed and worked well. Fit an insect screen to the input side of the blower.

As far as the visor goes, you fit a visor protector in front of it. These are thinner material and sometimes come in the form of tear-offs, like motor racing helmets have.

I used a cut-up clear 1 litre pop-bottle.

i would be looking at getting some sort of rust protection onto your body shell asap or all your hard work will be for nothing, our garage was heated and if we had something left in bare metal overnight by morning it was starting to decay . blasted metal really needs to get coated in under 24 hours.

I've left the heating on plus a dehumidifier. Will see tomorrow

I need to get on with blasting today and not wait for mask to arrive. Going to try cheap £1.50 "science class" goggles and some sort of face wrap and my screwfix breathing mask. Think I've only got a few hours of blasting left to do.

Took a look today at the car and no re-rusting yet. The humidifier is keeping the humidity at 55% which must be helping.
