What does it take to get a price on Galvanising.

I just want a quote on a large trailer to be galvanised. It is a boat trailer of 23 foot. I have emailed two companies and after two weeks no replies from them.


Must not be interested in us mere mortals and these weeee jobs.

Can anyone suggest a company in the North West that can collect and return the job to the Manchester area.

Or even a rough idea as in a price and worth doing.

It is made from 18m of 100 x 50 box and also 9m of 50 x 50.

Also have you got all the relevant drainage holes in the box or is it all fully sealed.
They can be quite specific with anything hollow, is it all one piece or are sections removable.

I gave the amount and size of materials and overall size of the trailer. I gave them details and said if they need more info they can either email me or call me.

They aid on there websites that they are happy to discuss what is needed from me as in holes drilling etc etc.

Just no decency nowadays from some companies.

We use Wedge, they are generally good. Man off the street will pay around 500 - 550 a tonne for white weight, so add 10% to the weight of the trailer.

Wedge, at heywood you can take yourself and collect yourself or pay them thier transport fee to collect and deliver. 55p a kg any steel section has a fractional weight per kg if you check out someplace like k steels they have the chart online.
Service is shocking with them all. Your choice is wedge, Leeds galvanising or widnes? Galv. Others offer a service as a drop off and collect point.
How bad is the service? Shocking one of them actually lost a 9 mtr beam and driveway gates also disappear often never to return. Smaller things? Make at least 10% more of them.
Before all the regs we had galvanising plants all over the north west. Many you could drop off and wait, had many an extended lunch but it was handy.
They don't give a monkeys dump about service unless your spending five figures with them and then they just try and make thier stupid mistakes better (like paying you back your costs on lost stuff) it's still rubbish

It is the Heywood branch i am close to, i did know a lad that worked there, sods law i havnt seen him in years. I even delivered there Air Products a few years back and got on with a lad in the maintenance shop.

Hundreds of tons of steel, thousands of part running through the plant and no markings on any of it, just a metal tag wired to bits.
Not something i would want to try and do must be the biggest nightmare of the job, everything looks the same once galvanized.

it used to be a nightmare blasting a load of peoples parts then they come back and say stuffs missing when u know it wasn't. in the end I used to get people to count the parts and chalk the amount shed wall

350x£0.55+vat. Speak to the quality manager and send him some pictures. It needs vent holes and if they ain't in the right spots I think they charge about £11 each (I have never had one done) also some designs will distort a lot ask!

Not if you have a system. First bit for me would be each person signs off what he is given. Then you have accountability and traceability. You can't fix a problem if you don't k or where it is occurring. Ever visited the docks? Heck it looks like how the heck does anything get to its destination but very little gets lost by comparison. I mean I totally expect to loose stuff!

Some of thier drivers are cracking lads, but they will gladly warn you about the lads who do the job. It's not mega bucks if I have a reasonable load I would always pay for thier transport.

I meant that to be not as a 'freebie', but perhaps part-load? Although judging by some of her pics, yours might be too 'small beer' to bother with. [No offence, of course ]

If its hollow section you will generally need holes of around 1/2" drilled between the sections and some way of them lifting the trailer to rotate it to cover the internals fully.
