I’m unsure what YMMV stands for.
You clearly have never spent any time in an engineering environment, I’ll take a time served engineer over a graduate with a uni degree and a Mickey Mouse intensive practical course any day of the week.
I went down the university route to get my degree. It was called a "sandwich course" back then. Classroom & exams with a few months practical experience sandwiched in between. I remember one of our lecturers telling us that we could not call ourselves engineers until we had graduated and spent X amount of years actually working in our field. I totally agree. Practical experience >> theory no matter how bright you are.
