What did you think about angle grinder?

Some say that it's the more dangerous tool that we can use.
Other say that it's safe use this one if we have respect of him.
I have use much angle grinder, also if i'm only 18 years old.
Super star p54-16 115mm (it still alive)
Other commercial trade Mark (all died)
Kinzo 860w (it still alive)
2 Black&Decker cd115
Black&Decker cd500(died yesterday)
Telefunken 230mm (very resistente)
Felisatti ag9-20 (my first 230mm)
Hitachi g23sc2 (brutall dead)
Old dewalt like p54-16
Old fein 125mm
Old Black&Decker sag

So i think that i know this tool, but i allways scared from him.
Why this tool scared me?
I allways use protectiv carter, second handle and protectiv glassees.
Some times we get a kickback, i have allways the finger ready to kill the power switch.
Yesterday i was cutting a 10mm iron plate whit the telefunken 230mm, and the angle grinder did kickback, but didn't fly, because it jump only for a inch, but my arm wasn't happy for this.
The cause of this is my brother illow that didn't took in position the iron plate

I was looking to by a metabo whit safety cluch but is very expensive.
What do you think about the safety cluch on this tool?

The most dangerous hand held tool I've ever used is a Stihl 090 chainsaw with a 4 foot bar, admittedly I'd only ever used a small chainsaw twice before, but l was with a Forrester who own the saw.

You have to respect all tools, they can all bite, just some are more painfully than others.

A 9" angle grinder has its place, just not under a car...............a lorry maybe, but a hot spanner is a better bet....

Kickback only happens if you do something wrong - learn how to do it right.

Oh, and they're nowhere near the most dangerous tool - look at forestry equipment (chainsaws, tractor driven ripping saws, splitters, chippers...)

The plate was on a 60 cm wall tall, he was on the 10 cm wall tall side and i other side, for a more confortable work position.

I have a Metabo 125mm grinder with safety clutch and no volt release switch and it is safer to use than my older grinder with no safety features plus it is variable speed.

Angle grinders scare me more than chainsaws - perhaps it's what you are used to.
I have also found my machine mart special is actually far better quality than the Hitachi one I have!

im not scared of them just weary of them but ive been around tools all my life

if you think a grinders bad you should try a gut buster drill they hurt its the type that when it gets you, you dont forget it

There is only one dangerous thing about an angle grinder and that's the numpty that picks it up. In competent hands they are perfectly safe to use tools. Show it respect and look after it and it will do you no harm.

But i think that whit no volt switch is safer than without one.
Safety cluch it's good for 230mm angle grinder, in 125 may be to much, or may be not.

My 125mm grinder is 1200 watt and if the disc got trapped it would pull out of your hands without the clutch. Grinders without soft start are vicious as well. I still have older grinders I use but nowadays mostly for fibre disc with backing pad and any cutting is done with the newer one but it only takes a momentary slip. I was a fettler in a couple of different foundries and I saw an experienced and trained man using one with both hands securely inside a large casting clip a piece of flash and took off half of his left thumb. He had been doing the job for over ten years and was no numpty.

No, he's the exception to the rule.

I've seen a very good and very experienced cabinet maker lose part of his finger to a chisel - those are accidents.

However, when you're using an angle grinder wrong handed, holding something down with your sandal clad foot and weaving the disc all over the place, while drunk (ok, excessive, but you get the idea) - that's not an accident, that's a deliberate.

Or using a cutting disc to grind !

Can 3,2 cutting weel,be used for light grinding?
Like grinding slags of metal after the cut.

Another question, when you took the 230 mm grinding weel to 125mm or, what do you do?
Get it in the trash or use on a little angle grinder?

You shouldn't really use the worn 230mm discs on the smaller grinder as the big ones are rated to 6,000rpm and the smaller ones to 10,000rpm but a lot of people do it anyway with no bad results. My 230mm grinder only gets used for slabs so I get smaller metal cutting discs anyway.

Sorry you miss understend me.
The usured cutting weel go from original diameter 228.9mm to approx 120mm.
The periferic speed is under the possible max speed 80ms.
115mm 13300 rpm (angle grinder often don't go over 12000 rpm)
125mm 12600 rpm (normaly they go on 11500 or 12000rpm)
150mm approx 10000 or 11000 rpm
180mm 8500rpm
230mm 6600rpm.
I think that we have not problem whit good cutting weel if we use them on a little angle grinder when they go under the max diameter for the grinder used.
But i never try whit a grinding weel, because i think that it's more heavy than a cutting weel.
Did you ever try to do this?
