because it might be contaminated.
Got into the yard today they have been pumping for over 48 hours.
Strangely the news was looking to be a little better until we spoke to the insurance companies.
To say they have no empathy would be an understatement.
They don't care about sentimental value or the fact that others will benefit from my son's loss.
The damage is not as bad as it could be but they are refusing to fix it.....but they won't payout and let him have the car back to even use as a drift car for the track. They will not payout until they get a certificate to confirm the shell has been scrapped.....because it might be contaminated. They don't care about the seats which are certainly contaminated.
They are saying they don't expect to be able to recover their costs from the business owners insurance as it will be classed as an act of God.
The ONLY good thing is my son can get paid out for his agreed value.........which does not make sense as it's either an act of God or its not. View attachment 213269 View attachment 213270
It will be, the flood water will be mixed with sewage and all sorts of other unsavoury stuff - so you can see their viewpoint, I suppose. Not a lot of comfort to your son, of course.
My point is the shell has to be scrapped......anything else can be sold by a salvage company. We are not 100 certain he is going to be covered......this is the biggest issue. The guy with the Aston Martin is also concerned this will be the case.bypass your insurers, recover the car, and sue the garage for the loss - same as you would any other item that was damaged whilst in the care of a third party?

But if he goes bump. Which is quite likely apparently. My son will be down 14k....he can't afford to gamble.that will be the garage's problem - not your sons.
Lol. He has an agreed value insurance. How do you put a value on sentimental value without the world+dog abusing it? To a certain extent that's why you can buy agreed value insurance policies, but, surprise surprise, they cost more.
Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but IME the public buy the cheapest possible policy and then complain they got what they paid for.
The insurance company he is with already have loads of photos as he had to fight to get the agreed value.I am sure I was reading on "Retro Rides" site a similar issue/problem with wanting a car back from the insurance co. There was quite a bit of advice on how t proceed with the insurance co to get back the car if it is being paid out for. I think the problem comes that once the insurance pays out they then "own" the car and can decide what to do with it. Think some of the suggestions were to agree during the settlement that the car would STAY in the possession of the original owner and I think one chap made a point of dragging his (crash?) damaged car back home and telling the insurance that HIS car was at his home ready for them to inspect. Don't forget get lots of pics BEFORE the water damage starts to make the car look crap (mold/moss/rust). Hope he get a good result.
Yeah I have been and taken those photos today. It's not really that bad. But it's the fact the insurance won't clean and repair it but won't let him keep the salvage. That's annoying me.ps If he can get at it then a few bottle of Milton and several watering cans should keep the bugs at bay.
