What Chop Saw Have You Got?

hi matthew , welcome to the forum , i have one of your rage 2 (?) chop saws , pretty good saw but was disapointed with your stainless steel cutting blades(not cheap at £100) soon lost its tips cutting stanless tube 1mm wall thickness is i guess what killed it ?

you maybe based in sheffield but arent your products made in china ?

I bought one of the early hand held rage saws about 8 years or so ago paid over £350 for it, the problem we found was the price of the blades, in a few weeks I spent more on blades than the machine cost, then when We found out what a stainless blade would cost us we stopped using it for metal,
Has there been any improvement in blade life / cost because I thought it was a superb product, just let down by this.

Seems you had problems with the stainless cutting blades too paul ! i certainly arent buying another one at the moment im useing an ordinary cutting disc but the machine runs too slow really for the abrasive discs ...

I've got the Fury 2 from Aldi. It's OK for light use, not always a straight cut but good for cutting things off and can always tidy up with a file

Not quite a chop saw, its a bench wood saw with a shim to take a 9" abrasive (modded by Wyn) Works a treat

Been thinking about getting a Donkey Saw, not sure how good they are.

I've got a mechanical hacksaw, it's an ace thing depends what you're cutting, but it chomps it's way through stuff. the "dropper" part doesn't work on mine, so it doesn't lower properly, meaning it can get stuck. and the mechanical "auto-shutoff" does work either. But it was £30 LOL

Not sure on the speeds, if I remember right it was not far off disc cutter speed, it cuts through sheet a treat, I have cut though box 2mm and angle 2mm but not as quick, still a very cheap tool and very handy. There is a little write up on here.

Yeh the donkey saw is just something I fancy, seen loads on ebay ended at between £30-60.

please give an opinion for what it is. i know it will never be like a makita or something.

it will be ideal for me, its got a laser guide, and a scale at the bottom for setting it at angles.

it doesnt say if it comes with a wood blade or a metal blade though. is 1400w good power for a chop saw?

im looking for a chop saw for angle iron/box section/round tubing etc etc

i need it adjustable to cut all sorts of angles. i dont know if they are all adjustable because i havent been shopping for one yet. i thought id ask on here first for recommendations.

i dont want a super duper one for professional use. it will only see about 3 or 4 weekends a year.

im just getting fed up of rough cuts with an angle grinder.

There are factual rumours that ALDI's may still have a few of these in there shops, I spotted one in their store at Wickford about 5 weeks ago, and some other members have also reported sightings, might be worth a few phone calls.

Try and track down a Fury 2 there may still be a few about, if you were to state your location (G.B. just is usless) you might get lucky and someone's seen one, there was a reported sighting of few still on sale in one shop not so long ago...

That one you posted from B&Q is just a wood one I think. Personally I wouldn't try to cut metal with it!

yeah pauld it does look like a wood saw. but i was going to fit a metal blade or one of those fury blades that cut everything. ill need a wood blade from time to time anyway, so it will be used.

ive been to three aldi shops toady and they have only got a power craft one for £20. i didnt know what the quality was like on power craft so i left it there.

the evolution stuff will cut wood as well the blade wont fit other stuff the bores etc are different.

A wood cutting saw runs much faster than a metal cutting saw, I think also a different size centre hole on metal cutting blades
