A friend of my in-laws was a company director & his company car was a Daimler Vanden Plas double 6, the long wheelbase job. He went on a business trip to Germany & in-laws wasn’t along too for the ride. They went into a fuel station in Germany, the girl attendants filled one tank, & in-laws friend said fill the other please. The girl said I’ve filled both, there’s a pipe across, no there isn’t, she made them pay before she would fill the other. It wouldn’t start one day & I got a phone call, “could I help” the AA or RAC had refused to come out saying their mechanics weren’t trained on vehicles like that. It turned out it was quite simple, the fuel pumps were in the boot & the wire to one had got pulled off, switch over pump on the dash & off it went.I had a S2 3.4 XJ6 and only filled the nearside tank. One day thought I better alternate between left and right so started to fill the offside - until fuel just went straight to the floor as bottom of tank had rusted out !
