I had 131 events of oil fumes into the cockpit when I flew the 757. Notorious for it. So common that nobody logged it as a fault "because they all do that". Only now are people falling over with Tricresyl Phosphate poisoning effects.

So you're saying that petrol shouldn't go off then?

pure petrol does not go off for years, Aspen lawn mower fuel etc. but the rubbish pumped up with methane etc. does go off, but we were discussing oil not petrol, I do have a gallon of JAP Totenham engine oil in a sealed can, it has a small rust hole so I can tell you it is ike steam oil, very thick and has a smell like a very old motorcycle engine that has sat under a bench for 40 years, it is around 100 years old.

There used to be a few guys that used that oil in the 10/12 foot planes with proper jet engines when I worked in a model shop years ago.
