What bugs are going around at the moment?

Yep. Been there, done that too. Ended up in a right state. I have not had an alcoholic drink since 1984. In truth, I am scared of it.

I re-read that, fair play my friend, excuse my glibness, I understand what you're getting at, any advice ? I want to cut down, reduce, I partake too.

Ohhh covid not again. I got a Xmas present of it.

Supposedly we're at an all time high in infections for 'rona, but it doesn't even make the news any more. Whereas two years ago it was the end of civilisation......

My ex wife has had it 3 times, as has our daughter, and most people I know have had at least one dose.... but not moi.

Maybe I'm one of the annoying asymptomatic 30% who have it with impunity?

I couldn't offer any advice to how. Like any addiction, its something YOU have to decide for yourself. Having anyone on your case is no help at all, only you can help yourself, and you have to want to. That's the only thing that works in my experience. Same when I gave up smoking. I just made my mind up, and stopped.

A couple of things happened as a consequence of my drinking, which made my mind up to stop, and I just did. I was on two bottles of Pernod a day by this time, but I just stopped, because I wanted to. I can't even stand the smell of it now !

I don't think I am like "normal" people in this respect though. I have been diagnosed as a borderline psychopath several years ago, but I dont think this has anything to do with that

Wifey and myself had something very similar last November after coming back from a trip to Newcastle. Rough as for about three weeks and longer to get over it. Test for COVID was negative for both of us.
We have had all the vaccinations offered (we are 69 and 70, you get offered a few!) And never had Covid despite a somewhat cavalier attitude to it.
My guess is it's escaped from a McDonald's laboratory in Chippenham.

I could easily go back to it, Smoking the same, but after a while, as long as you have the will to resist, the craving disappears, then it becomes a whole lot easier.

I dabbled a bit with erm, recreational drugs too, but never enjoyed it. I do understand though, how kicking them would be a whole lot harder. It physically hurts and gets more of a grip.

Its funny though, when offered a drink and refuse it, saying I don't, most people think there is something wrong with you. Looking at the price of beer spirits and cigarettes these days, I am glad I don't use them any more. Much better IMO to have a pile or rusty old junk to play with.

I have a cavalier attitude towards it too, despite having three people I know die from it, and not being vaccinated. I have not had it either, not that I am aware of.

I will not have the vaccines again because I have a bowel condition (most unpleasant) that I had got under control and had been in remission for several years. I had the first vaccine when the Covid thing all started, and within three days it was back with a vengeance. The doctors said that this would not cause it, but I am convinced it did, so will not have another as I don't want to go through all that again. Its much better now, though still worse than it was pre Covid.

I never really liked the taste, just used to drink to be sociable so gave up in 1980. My drinking mates initially took the mick until they realised I could drive while they could have a couple of extra pints so happily bought me soft drinks when it was their round.

That's deafness not Covid. My memory and concentration have gone downhill but I'm not sire it was Covid. I can remember phone numbers but if I do a puzzle or something I could do it again an hour later and not remember the answers and it is really frustrating at times.

Ditto. I did get Covid and was reasonably ill with it but wasn’t aware memory loss was a thing.

I’ve lots of other issues going on which they think is related to memory loss, including but not limited to a lot
Of Rugby and boxing / martial arts which would have been a lot of head contacts and I was knocked out a couple of times on the rugby field.

That’s the road they are exploring but it’s interesting seeing this thread. When I next go back about a check up I’ll mention the Covid thing and see if they think that’s worth looking into.

Here in Italy covid is going down , the majority of persons are vaccinated . But we learned the lesson the hard way , covid hurted so bad here from 2020 till 2022 .

Me and my family have been damn lucky , we did not get covid ( we got 4 vaccinations ) but we got a very annoying flu in february , nothing crazy .

Do not tell that Covid is new flu , because flu does not burn your lungs and/or tries to kill you or whatever we learnt with covid .
During the italian lockdown in march 2020 , my father cousin was in contact with the hospital head medic in Bergamo , were covid killed a lot of persons ( some could remember videos of italian military trucks bringing coffins out of hospital there ) , during those hard days my father cousin had a phone call with that medic , he said something like this :

"We have never seen something like this before , people is dying and we do not know what to do , we can only choose between those who can (maybe) live and those who cannot , like old persons , we don't have enough beds and breathing machines , it's like a damn war "

Heard that covid is rising again in China , maybe a new mutation will come , or maybe not .
Personally I've always thought that vaccinations saved us but also that the virus has still something to show .

Flu certainly does try to kill you. Approximately 500,000 a year, more when there are specific strain pandemics eg 1918 Spanish flu killed an estimated 18 million with related deaths for the following 10 years from respiratory damage etc.

As annoying and frustrating this memory loss/forgetfulness malarkey is, it is comforting that its not just me !

As I said, I have lost three acquaintances because of Covid, one was in their Eighties and a bit frail, and one was a fat b erm, a bit on the chubby side in his Sixties, so while sad, not entirely shocking. The third however, was 39 and what you would call ripped. Competitive cyclist, marathon runner and keep fit fanatic, ate properly etc. Killed him in a week. Poor sod couldn't breath and was terrified. He was friend of my Brother in Law that I met on a couple of occasions, and was the last person you would think that would succumb. We were all really shocked.

Well, covid test this morning, negative but after ten days I expected that. Talked to the doc and am now on antibiotics for a chest infection. Hopefully I should know whether they are working or not by tomorrow...

We take them, there's no downside unlike some others (overdose risk).
