Well, if you rag it, try to drift it at your age, what do you except?
What causes that, potholes?
Never broken a suspension componenr.
But they do not break.
But you drive on smoooth French tarmac, unlike in the UK.Also, A combination of age, lack of current use, heat/cold cycles over Winter etc. Couple that with deterioration of the plastic coating allowing water ingress and you have the perfect recipe. Oddly, they uually break right at the start of a journey & seldom while 'on the move'.
Ohhhh, yes they do [pantomine voice]. 2 in 3 weeks on mine, plus one each for the neighbours on either side of me [both Fords - one rear & one front]. The recovery garage chap said they've had quite a lot in recent weeks/months too.
probably source the spring from the same stock
Yep, Coghill's - but under new ownership for some 10 years. It's on the market if you're fancying a change of location/career/business......

I had both rear springs replaced on the e60 last Wed after the o/s one was found to be snapped when I went to change onto my Summer alloys/tyres [I know, later than planned but weather & other factors intervened
Just wondering would you always replace the springs in pairs or does it depend on the quality/value of the car and style/ride of the car. When I done one spring on my corsa I was told by eurocarparts that garages will always do them in pairs but car owners will do one side.
If you are concerned about the undamaged side remove it and inspect. If it hasn't sagged or bowed, then its good to go.
I think the Porsche and BMW owners would soon be shouting warnings to avoid if I was let loose on their vehicles!

That's exactly what I did and nearly two years later its all still going and driving fine, it just I find it very hard to tell the difference between sales patter and what is a genuine issue which could affect my driving.
could well be your driving. Theres a railway crossing at North Howden before the 40limit, people would regularly break both front springs (esp diesels) driving too fast over the crossing, landing hard on the otherside. Problem is they would come flying up and brake at the last minute, car goes nose heavy and smashes into the run off on the otherside

You live in France! You have far superior tarmac and tarmac layers!
I'd always do both.
I've recently change the rears on my Surf but if I'd only done one side it would be sagging about 2" lower one side!

They don't look much different but it rides about 2" higher now.

@slim_boy_fat is it a diesel?
And I'm generally a very aware & careful driver, although not in Miss Daisy class.....![]()
