Replaced plenty of springs!

I'm not convinced that they are the same quality as older vehicles had fitted

Cold weather & poor roads seem to kill them off

I was in the motor trade for over 50 years and I can’t say that coil spring replacement was a common job in the late 60s early 70s , yes there was the odd one . The last few years it was almost a daily job certainly several times a week. I to live near a “level” crossing where it’s a regular event for springs breaking. I remember a BMW that had just been MOTd and was parked up before the test results had been logged, as the tester walked away the was a noise as one of the springs broke

I was talking to the owner of a small garage a while back when I was having a car mot’d & he told me they were averaging 3 springs a week. He put it down to the shock loadings from the pot holes.

Mrs audi had 2 springs in 5 years.
