Just wondered if i could get some help please.
I dont have any pics im afraid so i may be hard for people to point me in the right direction but ill try anyway. Next time ill take pics.
Last night i went to my course.
I was asked to do a fillet weld inside joint. The rig was a miller 353 migmatic and i think the settings were something like:
Bottom knob set to 1.
V knob set to about 4, wire feed about 3.5.
Welding roughly 6mm flat bar.
This is to try and get a handle on how well we can currently weld to set up what we are going to be doing throughout the course.
When doing this fillet the weld kept sitting in the joint, if you know what i mean, so it was bellying out rather than making the nice smooth joint.
I tried running the weld up the sides more, side to side, small circle's and no difference.
The weld was fairly smooth and consistant, just that it was popping out rather than sitting in a nice curve.
My thinking is either too low amperage (though i was never shown how to set this rig up) and/or too slow travel speed (though when i increased the speed it was the same just a thinner weld).
I wasnt really given any feedback as to what i was doing wrong, just that it was not right but ok for first attempt.
Now im trying to push on as much as i can to get more out of the course so i want to try and get this bit nailed. I have a week to practice on my own clarke 90 before going back. Id like to "impress" so i can get more out of the course.
Any ideas?
