I'm about to buy my first MIG welder. I'm almost a novice, although many years ago I had some success on heavy gauge mild steel with a Rawlpug XP Arc Welder which ran off 12volt car batteries connected in series.
My main use will be general household, plus occasional auto body repairs.
Specifically, I have a 36 year old Landrover which needs a small repair to a door post. The steel is standard thin car body gauge, the sort of thing that my old arc welder would have blasted through with disastrous results. Can a cheap diy MIG welder cope with thin sheet repairs ? Also, can the same outfit cope with heavier 2mm chassis repairs ? What specification and make of welder should I be considering?
