What 60hp outboard engine?

The BF75 honda is £90 odd for the oil and filter for the annual change regardless of how few hours you do.

Will add up to a big difference in running costs vs hrs if you need to have it serviced annually to keep the warranty valid for the next 5yrs.

I do not think I will find one, a quick look on the web, no new ones pop up.

Will just have to accept the Service costs for the warranty.

Looks like it is down to best local dealer. Not always who is closest though, finding out who gets a good name for service and knowledge would trump closeness, well within reason.

Aye have asked around best local dealers are the Suzuki/ Honda about 50 minutes away and Mercury just over an hour away - which likely puts me back to Mercury (there are closer ones but not what have been recomended by a friend who ran a boatyard).

Well to me that would be the main factor. A good dealer with good knowledge and service is more important than cost, within reason.

I think new outboards are 4 stroke, fuel injection, to meet New pollution standards.

Or its foreseen.

Really refuse to touch outboards, dont do them.

The latest Yamahas are also fly by wire. Not seen any yet but would be a joy to fit if you only have a few electrical wires to run. How reliable they will be I don't know, not sure if the Cat I will be doing in December will have them or not, I know he was considering them.

My worst nightmare was inboard diesels on a 10m Cat, no room around it, took me 8 hrs of utter pain to get a starter changed. I dreaded every day that I saw they weren't at sea as I knew there was a problem. Best day of my life when they got me to make pods and they fitted outboards.

I reguarly cut holes in boats, to get Access.

Cutting a hole in this would have sunk it

The real problem was the engines were stuffed into a tiny space and the exhaust pipe was stuck fast and trying to pull it free was flexing the very poorly fitted outlet and would have burst the hull.
I did not have any suitable pipe or clamps and it was a Friday so I just had to struggle on.
The other side I was prepared for, hacksaw, suitable pipe insert and proper clamps, only took a couple of hours for that one

And don't get me started on the bleeding outdrives, they are the devils work.

All inboards of any description are awful things to work on in little boats, by little shall we say less than 100 tons.
And some of the bigger ones are not much better.

Back to outboards, some brands hold their resale value better than others, so depending on future plans, this may sway decision making.

As an observation those prices dont seem to have esculated the way some other things have since the last one I bought in the 1980s, unless its just my memory isnt working so well

I paid about £6800 for a new Yamaha F115 Ultra Long Shaft in 2000, cost now over £11,000, so really just inflation as Office of National Statistics composite price index inflation £6800 in 2000 is worth about £11,500 in todays money.

I have never personally bought any outboards but according to the guys that do you add a couple of zeros to the HP for the price. Well that is for the Yamahas anyway. Not sure if that is excl or incl VAT. If Excl then it sounds like the price @Rannsachair got is about right, if Incl then a bit high.

I was advised similar,

If it flys, floats or has sex, it should be rented.

But on the other hand if you didnt waste your money on toys, you would just waste it on something else!
