No he's crap but the only other business teacher is really a PE teacher who owns and runs a personal training business so he's "qualified to teach"not the best teacher then

Well, we got a test back today, apparently the national average is 65% of people get an A*-C grade, we had one person get a B and only 2 got Cmaybe he should teach PE until he understands the simple things
. Then he started saying it was because of our attitude, I muttered that the common factor was the teacher. Got sent out.

ask him again what professional means, if he spouts the same rubbish just state that's why the marks are low

this is the problem I think now. im not oe to to start blaming teachers for every kid that fails, but when an entire class is falling behind then something should be done. we had a maths teacher, mr Williams, who insisted that we mark each others work, but wouldn't give us the actual correct answer, so if me and the kid next to me worked it out the same way and both got it wrong, we would still mark it right as we used the same method so assumed that if someone else used the same method as me, then it must be right so it got a tick. we didn't find out until he was forced out by the other teachers that we were infact quite crap. considering we were the top set for maths in our year, our new teacher was mortified that we were getting things like Pythagoras and basic trig wrong, when we all thought we were mathematical geniuses

I would prefer, 'sir, are you a professional?', 'well, yes of course', 'oh, but I thought you said it meant you are good at your job...'. should get the point across. or show him a dictionary, professional is in there

To be fair, I can see the point you're making there. A good example would be the garden wall thread the other week. That was just a disaster waiting to happen, IMHO.
It's when we get to stuff like this where it becomes a bit fuzzy though. On the one hand, as you say, someone else shouldn't be paying for someone to make their mistakes and subsequent experience on the job at their expense, but conversely, I'm sure there are plenty on here who've not had the privilege of formal training in some of the areas we work and hence we've had to learn literally on the job and the hard way.The main point in this scenario is as to how good the person is to start with, and as to whether their work is at least upto par from day one on the customer work. It's not always necessary to know the complete in and outs to be able to do a perfectly sound and satisfactory job. It comes down to talent, ability and general quality of work as much as owt else. As to whether someone is good or bad, learned or learning, the proof is in the pudding with that one, so it's a theoretical point we're discussing without having first hand knowledge of the work done.
