wet tile saw

what with having a fairly large profit coming to me Monday, I fancy a wet tile saw.

few questions though, how fast do they cut? I.e. Faster than a hand saw?

also, how long will the discs last roughly?

cutting no straight tiles with a hand saw at the moment and fancy an easier life lol

2nd rule of business...do you need it? Really need it? If you can manage without, then don't buy it. If you are tiling every day then its needed.

if u havent got one get one bought . u wouldnt be without once u have had one . depending on the tiles your cutting and how many pay for a good one if u have a lot to do if your not fussed buy a cheap one just dont expect it to cut hard porcelane tiles

I may not need it, but its 30 quid and the last 2 tiling jobs I have done have led to others. There are only 2 corner cuts on Mondays job so might leave it for now.

might have to put some of this money out of the way otherwise ill never get a van haha

as above... do you need it? nothing cuts straight faster than a good tile cutter.. rubi ts 40 will last a lifetime and works every time...looks expensive but I have had mine over 15 years and still works like new

if you need wet.. a table saw type will do, cheap are not much worse than mid priced, £40 will do everything you ever really want, blades last forever if kept wet, about 2 minutes if dry, they are messy noisy toys and you always want eye protection cos they chuck chips like a barstuard

For odd shape cuts like corners etc they are great.
A decent blade like a Rubi one will last ages. Put it this way, one at ours used for students gets more hammer than it would from a pro tiler and the blade has lasted a year so far!

Low mess, easy straight lines, faster than by hand, easy to be accurate ans capable of much narrower cuts than a typical dry cutter.

The water cooled ones virtually always come with diamond blades and they last a long time. Can't remember the make of mine but I have done a shed load of porcelain and granite tiles with it. Also used it on paving slabs

When dry they're good for perspex too.

Ours have done hundreds, maybe thousands of porcelain wall and floor tiles as well as slate, travatine etc.

Rubi and Plasplugs are the brands that stand out but as said they're all pretty similar.

Just had a thought for cutting your odd shape tile cuts,why not buy one of those multi tool cutters?

this will serve a whole range of jobs other than tile cutting.

I've got a plas plugs special from b&q, had for about 6 years and done loads of jobs, proper used and abused. Used it 2 weeks ago to put down some stone tiles in my bathroom and worked a treat, it cost about 30 quid then, don't know how much they are now. I've got a big bad boy table mounted saw that's only been used once. It's in my lock up in London if your interested?

Just thought. If you have a branch of CTD Tiles near you they'll often do a deal on a cutter if buying tiles there.

Well, no wonder there was a disturbance felt in the manliness force, with that advice. What correlation have want and need ever had when it comes to tools?

They go through travertine like butter.

Couldn't imagine doing a tiling job without one.

i have a bosch one u could use one with a carbide blade but it would be slow and chip the face of the tiles .a wet tile saws the thing

will see how much more tile.work I get. I have a tile cutter, cost about 60 quid new, given to me by my father after he bought it to do his bathroom. Its quick and simple, I'm just not a fan of the hand saw and file lol

You need a multicutter for the shaped bits much faster than hand file imo, and they are soooo useful for all sorts of other things I have 2 a bosch 10.8 and an einhall one that was 30quid from gem tool hire about 2 years ago, it's even been used on 2 full sheets of 3/4 ply and still going! We bought a wet tile cutter from! BnQ about the same time for about 50 quid similar to the plasplug one its done 4 bathrooms and a kitchen so far and still got loads of life in it well handy as everyone has said!!

How fast can you cut a tile in a wet tile cutter? bet I can have 4 tiles cut on a normal tile cutter by the time its done one.

I'm advocating you use the multi tool for the small cut arounds that sometimes we're faced with.ie a little square at one corner or something and use the normal tile cutter for straight cuts.
