Every time I used to go back to the U.K. I'd hit Specsavers, get an eye test, new frames and glasses.

Was really cheap, loved it.

Didn't they get bought out, or did I dream that ?

they tend not to give it out ,,, but its simple to measure yourself at home ,, well actually get someone to do it for you ...

I asked for my prescription and noticed the IPD was not shown. When I asked the girl for this detail she discretely told me they were not supposed to give it to customers but then wrote it down for me on the back of some paperwork. It's quite clear why they don't want to give this information as it is far cheaper to buy glasses online but the high street opticians have basically priced tight-wads like me out of ever buying from them.

What I find is that I ask for two different prescriptions, for reading and computer monitor distances, and they slot the appropriate lenses in until I'm happy.
But then when I collect the actual specs and try them, the distances aren't correct - almost as though they have a range of standard lenses and just pick the nearest ones, rather than 'grinding' what I actually need.
I have several pairs of titanium frames now so next time I think I'll just get the prescription and send them to a reglazing place (there's one in the area, I'm told).
