Killed my last pair of glasses, so I went last week for an up to date eye test, and the pain of choosing new frames. Jumped on the wire frame trend. Ive had an organise, idly wondering whether to try them all at once like those men off of the repair shop

My daughter worked for Specsavers - staff are on commission so be wary of upselling !
I recently had my eyes tested at Vision Express in Tesco. They quoted £530 for a two pairs of glasses. Took prescription to Adsa and got two pairs of a respectable make for £201. Going back to Adsa in New Year for a replacement pair of safety glasses with variable focus lenses which they say will be £80

I use spec savers and she miss priced the glasses instead of being £45 each I got a pair for £27

I ordered x4 sets for that money and have one for work, the car and going out and then a spare set Iv not decided what I’ll do with

Have you tried the online sellers like select specs etc?

There is a company called Two Eyes , in Over, near Cambridge , who will reglaze your old spectacles to your prescription for a fraction of the cost of new ones and a quick turn around .They also sell new frames . A lot of local opticians will get them done for you at a charge , they send them to Two Eyes .There are probably other companies offering this service around the country

ill let you in on a secret, there are online companies that make glasses for basically nothing https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/ is the one I use. You put in your prescription from specsavers (I nearly put screwfix there!) and then they make your glasses for you. Much cheaper and really good quality in my view (my pairs have lasted at least 4 years)

I'm just waiting on a pair from China - £72 for frame and those photochromatic extra dark single vision lens. I'll see if they are any good when they get here. I previously bought the same frame from the same seller to see what the quality was like and it appears well made for £30 delivered.

For bricks 'n' mortar, if you're near Carlisle, see Ian at RTU Optical on Kingstown Industrial Estate. I've had a few pairs from him over the years when I've been over. Very reasonably priced and excellent service. Can't recommend him enough.

I've used Goggles4u no probs at all. I also used an eBay seller who reglazed my old favourite metal framed sunny's with prescription sunny lenses for £22 inc return postage, couldn't be more pleased with them!

Oh yeah I only have normal glasses as I dont need variable focus

You can give them your inter pupillary distance (ipd) and they make them to order.
I last paid about £25 and they are 100% fine.

My optician, not Specsavers, managed to mis measure my ipd. Took two measures and two pair of glasses to get right. I did it myself, well my wife did, before going back for re measure and we were spot on. So I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if ordering on line and it wasn't on the prescription.

How do you do it? Just get her to poke you in the eyes with digital calipers?

Thats my normal monday morning ,,, sat on them , slept in them ., take them to get twisted back into shape .

most opticians will either have an in house tech ,, [ me] lol , or have someone local and they will do a delivery / collection at least once a day , aiming for a two day turnround on basic single vision three on out of range and slightly more on complex stuff ,,, lenses are not expensive , but I do see a difference in some against others ,,
