Wellies buying.....

Dunlop acifort wellies you can't go wrong. Inexpensive,hard wearing, excellent grip and comfortable, more so with an insole. Oh and steel toes. Highly recommended. Cost around 30ish quid.

I’ve never had an expensive pair of wellies and doubt I ever will which is probably why I can agree almost completely with the above.
I wear wellies pretty much all day every work day and have never felt the need to go beyond the cheapest pair of Dunlop aciforts I can find. They were 15 quid at screwfix last time and they make an excellent slapping noise when you wear them in shorts!
Say no to steel toes which seem like a waste of time unless you get chainsaw ones.

Bloke I work for pays extra for unlined dairy jobbies which allow you to mop them out after a critical incident or on hot days which can be a bonus, but then you’re unlikely to encounter the back end of a cow while washing your car!

Just to put this to bed, after reading all the good advice here I decided to look in Dobbies when I was at my usual hospital clinic on Tuesday. They only seemed to have Barbour or one other known make [possibly Dunlop (?)] at 80-odd quid which I had to assume were Neoprene lined, but I'd left my glasses in the car in the hospital car park and couldn't be a*rsed trawling back to the car to get them.

Came home after treatment and looked at a few places online but gave up and retired to bed.

This morning I remember our local 'Country Store' and swung up to their place to see what they stocked and found their last pair of size 9 Hoggs of Fife [a brand I've heard of, more for their clothing than anything]. Neoprene-lined and tried them on. Fitted fine and felt decent so bit the bullet and bought them at £72-odd, cheaper than Hoggs own website [£109] or online third-party retailers like

Goes to show it can pay to shop locally, and I figured as I know the owners and they supply loads of local crofters/farmers, they'd not stock rubbish stuff. Went to pay and discovered they don't take card payments and I'd only taken my card...not cash [which I had in the house]. Offered to return with the cash if they'd put the boots aside but was asked if I had a cheque book. "Yes". "Well, just post in a cheque." Now, that's service!! [although I've known the family for donkey's years and dealt with them when I worked at the golf course].

Happy bunny, me - although we'll probably not see much snow for the rest of the Winter, my having made the decision. Actually, they're forecasting snow for next week, if you can believe forecasts.

I looked at them too, stocked by the equestrian store (I think my wife can get a discount there...) just down the road, and was drawn to them for the Vibram sole.
