Next wknd (weather permitting) I'm hoping to try out my welder for the first time (Cosmo 170 ). Have been going to evening class for a few weeks to get some experience before I start tinkering at home. At college all the machines are more or less set-up for us and there's somebody there to sort it out if it's not quite right. At home though I'll be on me own and it wasn't until I started thinking it through that I realised how many variables are involved in the welding process!
I've been looking at the settings calculator in the tutorials section on here (an excellent resource . . . much appreciated! ), to find a starting point from which to experiment till I get the bacon sizzling! This is what I've come up with so far:
Steel = 3mm thick
Wire thickness = 0.8mm
Gas = argon / co2 mix
Amps setting = level 5 (level 1 is min. and level 6 is maximum)
Wire speed = 4.9 mtrs per min (give or take Cosmo wire speed variation whilst welding! )
Gas flow rate = ??
So what gas flow rate should I be starting with? I've got a pea-shooter type flow meter to help get me started.
Very grateful for any info / advice.
