Hi All,
Any tips on the best way to weld when the torch is pointing upwards? I'm really struggling to get anything decent at all. All that seems to happen is the a blob of molten steel runs back towards the nozzle.
I'm working on a chassis leg that has rotted through, the car is up on the ramp. I'm starting to think I will have to put the car back on the ground and tip it up 45 deg so i'm welding downhill.
I'm using 0.6mm wire, 10LPM Argoshield, R-Tech mig 180., 4 on the dial for wire speed and 5 for volts. The chassis is around 2mm thick steel maybe a bit less.
Oh, and I'm not a very experienced welder!!
Cheers

I did vehicle restoration welding as a job for 5 years. Firstly you need .8mm wire (that will make things much easier), and when you have the correct wire will need to experiment with wire feed and power settings to get the best results. In general wire feed will be a little higher than if you were welding something on the bench. Remember to wear ear plugs, a cap of some sort, and ideally a leather welders jacket.
