hey guys and girls was just wondering when people are mig welding what style they use such as straight or weaving in a moon and which technique gets the best penetration
If you want the best penetration you shouldn't weave at all...when you weave you're smearing the weld pool around so for good pen go straight!
But ofcourse it all depends on the position too...sometimes you just have to weave, big gap between the pieces, going up etc...
I've returned to mig after several years-what I find at the moment is I need to have the machine settings spot for straight runs or the bead gets quite high. For some runs I weave.
What I would say about weaving is that I find it difficult to kick the habit once you start doing it.
sorry, forgot this video which shows the craftsman doing multiple straight runs and then on a second job he uses a weave.
Also, shows use of heat sink, and reference to reading the sparks from grinding.I have seen hardfacing mig wire spools so wonder if that would the stuff for the second job.
