welding table what size is best ?

hi again ive been welding using a concrete flag for a while and outside at that now and i realised that i did need a welding table instead

ive managed to get myhands on this welding table as been looking for a while for one

now i picked that up at 40.00 for a size 6' x 4' looks to be 1/2 inch or 3/4 steel top and delivery is kinda nothin

now im stuck for space and wondering what size is the best to use for myself before it is delivered

i have no workshop as i can only use it in a kitchen if in shed the gets will pinch it for scrap on me if im not careful

now i have thought of 2 ways here either 4' x 3'
or 2' x 6' 2 tables that could be joined together or seperated upon the job requirements
my usage only like a door frame to be welded up and steel door once or twice the rest is tinkering and building something up at 2' x 2' roughly

can you guys please advise if possible with thanks

A 6' x 4' chunk of 0.5" thick steel weighs about 220kg (~330kg @ 0.75" thick) so not the easiest thing to nick without drawing lots of attention. Personally i would go with a 4 x 3 if i had to cut it up

Working outside is a necessity for me also and have been pondering this recently, albeit on a much smaller scale. Concluded as you that separate tables are key...

or 2' x 6' 2 tables that could be joined together or separated upon the job requirements

..Or in your case go even further and make 6 separate 2'x2' tables which would lessen the individual weight to be shifted.
Equip each table with castors or build a sack barrow type thing which picks up each frame - wheel them aside to be suitably "disguised".

thanks for your advice so far

i was consider

1, 2' x 6'
2, 2' x 3'

as that split would give me a 10 ft span when joined together, the middle been unsuported if over the 2' span in the middle if i ever needed a bigger job to fill the needs of it

i could split the table into 4 instead giving
4, 3' x 2' size tables

but thats something to think about

now i can either use the table design locks that loop over and pulls tight to lock the tables together or use the old bed design that has a swivel threaded bar that allows different positions of how to lock the tables together

oh nearly forgot the heavy duty vice in the picture is also included with the table as well

Sometimes things should go untold!

Whatever way you decide to slice the cake be sure to think of some adjustablity so as to enable you to level the sections up.

If IF you really must cut it up, I would fabricate means of holding them together BEFORE you cut it, and fit to the underneath, as it will be far easier than after wards
