I finally got the material for the top of the welding table I want to build. But what is the best height for the tabletop? I'm primarily planning to use it for small projects, but will probably also use it for a few larger ones (welder stand, cutoff saw stand, etc.)

That really depends on how tall you are. My workbench is around 900mm high (just under 3', I think) and I'm about 5'9". I find it's about right. Try and mark the height on a wall somewhere and see if you'll be comfortable with it. Nothing worse than trying to weld when you're not comfortable!

Good suggestion from Pete here, Also, you may want to allow for the height of a (large) vice. I am building a bench at the moment, and its another 220mm to the top of the vice-plus any work piece that is in it.
You can of course also use duck boards on the floor to raise your own working height at a later time-floor space permitting. This provides a variable working height.
