There we go, didn't take that long...
Without wishing to be a spoil sport, the problem with these sort of threads is that someone asks a generic question, in this case "can I weld suspension parts" and when you get a generic answer back, in this case "No they might be made of magic metal" we all take umbrage to that and start finding niche examples of where you can and have done so.
It would be better if the original question was more specific "Can I weld the lower arms on a 1997 Ford Escort"? Maybe not quire as entertaining a thread, but at least the answer would be relative to that situation.
It might be perfectly safe to weld up the arms on a pre war classic, but a highly stressed modern car might be different, and without knowing what the OP is intending to weld any answer is just a guess and likely to be wrong in my opinion.

Not according to the steel industry they didn't, not in suspension components. Bumper beams and door intrusion bars until the early 90's.
