Well, I had ambitions of getting around to making my own...
But I never seemed to have time, and I was never enthused about the project, as it was always going to be a big bulky thing that would end up being difficult to store and move around.
Anyway, I was surfing the Westermans site and spied a small-ish welding positioner, partially disassembled. I enquired about it and the price was reasonable enough to take a gamble on, especially considering it was a Polysoude, which is a high-end automated welding brand.
The gamble paid off! Westermans are very good to deal with, they sent it on a pallet quickly and efficiently, well wrapped up.
All the hardware was present and correct. There was a little paper tag, probably there from the factory, headed Messer. I surmise that this was made by Messer for Polysoude, as quite a bit of their hardware is.
The motor was a Dunkenmotoren GR53x58, 3300rpm 40VDC, feeding through a PLG52 gearbox. The markings had been wiped off the side, however I knew that Polysoude supplied them with either 64:1, 225:1, or 512:1 ratio gearboxes.
I later worked out by the speed range that it was a 225:1 gearbox. The final drive is around the outer ring of the turntable and comes out as a 12:1 reduction. The original spec for this is supposed to give a speed range of 0.07-1.39 rpm.
Rotary positioner
I got an old rotary milling table last year, it actually worked a little bit but then sized. So it got put to one side until now. It's a whopping great thing, probably 250kg? Stripped out the electrics, since they don't work, and I don't need them. There was a fwd/rev as well as an auto...
