Hiya lads, Ive always been interested in fabrication and recently left school a month or two ago. I went straight into work fitting ductwork with my dad (sub contracting)....fitting for me wasnt something i enjoyed, the money yes but the work? NO. We started contracting to an old mate of my dads fitting stainless steel canopies and alterations to duct and general extraction then one day the workshop foreman asked me if i wanted a job there joking as one of the lads had made something wrong I basically told him how interested i was and it went from there as this bloke is 50/50 in the company. The other owner who runs the business more or less asked me if i wanted to do a week in the workshop the following week and i obviously said yes after impressing them ive now got a permanent job fabricating for them and im also on the same money as i was fitting which is even better as i didnt get payed for travel fitting but was out of the house more or less the same hours. Well my problem is ideally i want something on paper within the next 2 years as it comes in handy as many of you will know first hand! Im not interested in doing an apprentice scheme through college as that would mean losing 3 days in the workshop a week to go to college in the first year and 2 the following year, the boss has also said he doesnt want to lose me for a few days of the week so this obviously isnt an option. Are any of you aware of an eveing type course where i can get something on paper? im not bothered if its over a few years and just one night a week but its a must really. Basically we make stainless steel products, 90% of which is canopies for kitchens and serverys etc. So i want a qualification which coincides with this? Another option is a qualification that i can gain inhouse? Any info on whats available would be cracking, cheers for reading!
